Trauma Therapy
See below for information on trauma and therapy modalities SKO Counseling utilizes to treat trauma.
How does SKO Counseling treat trauma?
SKO Counseling utilizes Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Thought Field Therapy (TFT) to support healing from traumatic events.

The appropriate treatment modality will be discussed with each individual client and best course of treatment and modality will be determined by clinician and client.
What is TFT?
TFT, or Thought Field Therapy, is a somatic practice in which the individual engages in specific tapping patterns on their own body to promote healing. There is minimal evidence for contraindication in TFT, meaning it is safe, effective, and accessible to all persons at any stage of recovery. Clients will often be encouraged to utilize TFT practices in between sessions as a part of their coping skill regimen.
What is EMDR?
Per the EMDR Institute: "Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy treatment that is designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic events."

EMDR was created by Francine Shapiro, PhD and has been proven to be an effective treatment for PTSD for more than 30 years.

Trauma is the real or perceived threat to safety or life. Individuals may experience very confusing, distressing, and debilitating symptoms following the event. EMDR does not promise to remove the memories from you, but to lighten the load, per se.
Can I treat my trauma virtually?
All trauma modalities are adaptable and can be provided either in-person or virtually. Corded headphones are highly recommended for EMDR virtual treatment.
What is IFS?
Internal Family Systems, or IFS, allows individuals to connect with themselves in new and powerful ways. Healing is initiated within and begins with the assumption that every part of the individual is good and well-intentioned. IFS states that humans are built of "parts" and these parts often need to heal their relationship to each other and to the individual self. Clients partaking in IFS often report improved relationships with self, increased self-respect, increased sense of self-love, and decreased anxious thoughts.
